A senior official on US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has criticised Israel’s continuing air strikes on Gaza, as well as the actions of the Palestinian armed group Hamas. Nickolay Mladenov warned that a collapse of last October’s ceasefire would be a point of no return for the region. He was speaking to the UN Security Council after Israel rejected the 15-point roadmap for Hamas’s disarmament.

The UN says around two thirds of Gaza’s two million people are living in tents or makeshift shelters, with at least 1,303 Palestinians, including 300 children, killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the US-brokered ceasefire began. Mladenov’s comments come as the international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, with the Watan News providing ongoing coverage of the situation.

Nickolay Mladenov’s Address to the UN Security Council

Mladenov told the Security Council that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed on a mechanism through which his government’s remaining questions would be settled. He warned that risks remained, including the continued killing of Palestinian civilians in Israeli strikes.
