Milwaukee Brewers celebrate their World Series 2026 berth after sweeping the Dodgers.

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series for the first time in 44 years. Down 4-0 in the early innings on the road against the two-time defending champions, the Brewers stormed back to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday night, completing a four-game sweep and sealing the Brewers World Series 2026 berth.

Garrett Mitchell’s leadoff home run in the sixth inning broke a 4-4 tie and sent Milwaukee into the lead for the first time all night, while NLCS MVP Jake Bauers drove in three runs. Milwaukee’s bullpen then slammed the door, turning away the tying run at third base in three consecutive innings.

Brewers World Series 2026 Berth Ends 44-Year Wait

The night began as a nightmare for Milwaukee. A run-scoring single by Andy Pages and a three-run homer from Shohei Ohtani — his first of the postseason — put the Dodgers ahead 4-0 in the second inning, and Dodger Stadium roared.

The Brewers answered with patience. They tied the game in the fifth, drawing four walks from the Dodgers’ bullpen and stealing two bases. A run-scoring single by David Hamilton chased starter Tyler Glasnow and cut the lead to one. Then Mitchell fell behind 0-2 in the sixth before launching a 409-foot drive to center field off reliever Tanner Scott — the first homer of his career on an 0-2 count.

Hamilton, the No. 9 hitter who managed only four homers all regular season, added insurance with a two-out solo shot off Edwin Díaz in the ninth.

Bullpen Shuts Down the Defending Champions

Milwaukee’s relievers were the story of the series. Left-handers JoJo Romero and Aaron Ashby combined for five scoreless innings in Game 4, striking out six. Ashby, who was credited with the save, struck out Ohtani swinging in the seventh and stranded the tying run on third base twice. He has now gone 12⅓ scoreless innings this postseason.

“We got down early tonight and we were like, it’s going to be a great story,” captain Christian Yelich said afterward. “We were going to come back and win this. Like, stay together, start chipping away. And that’s exactly what they did.”

Revenge for Last Year’s Sweep

The result completes a remarkable turnaround. A year ago, the Dodgers swept the Brewers out of the same round. Milwaukee is now the first club in major league history to complete a postseason sweep after being swept by that same opponent the previous year.

“They may have a bunch of Hall of Famers, but we’ve got a bunch of gamers — and the gamers won this week,” manager Pat Murphy said.

The loss ends the Dodgers’ hopes of a three-peat — a feat last achieved by the New York Yankees from 1998 to 2000 and never by a National League team. The Brewers, who topped the majors with 103 regular-season wins, now have a week off before the Fall Classic begins.
