TTP Threatens Pakistan Security

The United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) ISIL, Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee has warned that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) poses a serious threat to Pakistan’s security, with the group carrying out multiple high-profile attacks from Afghan territory.

Denmark’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sandra Jensen Landi, presented a report to the Security Council, stating that the TTP, comprising roughly 6,000 fighters, remains a major regional danger, benefiting from logistical and significant support from the Afghan authorities.

UNSC ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee Report

The report presented by Landi highlighted the evolving threat of terrorism, especially in Africa, where malign actors exploit new technologies to pursue dangerous ends.

The UNSC’s 15-member Council was briefed by the heads of three subsidiary bodies, relating to Daesh/Al-Qaeda, UN counter-terrorism efforts, and measures to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to non-State actors.
