Emergency services were dispatched to the training area after the incident. Two of the injured soldiers were airlifted to Darwin by helicopter around 7:30pm local time on Monday evening.

A further three soldiers were medically evacuated by plane about two hours later, around 9:30pm. The injured soldiers are receiving treatment and are being monitored, Defence said.
