London: Global health and climate experts will gather at the British Library in London on 28 October for the Health and Climate Change Conference 2026, an event marking the publication of the 10th Indicator Report of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change.

Hosted by the Lancet Countdown and UCL Grand Challenges (Climate Crisis) as part of University College London’s bicentenary year, the half-day conference will bring together researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, civil society organisations and practitioners working at the intersection of climate change and health.

A milestone report

The Lancet Countdown, led by University College London, tracks the health impacts of climate change through annual indicator reports produced in strategic partnership with the World Health Organization. The 2026 edition is the 10th in the series, and its launch will be livestreamed with live captioning and translation for those unable to attend in person.

Through keynote presentations, panel discussions and audience engagement, the conference will showcase the report’s latest findings and explore how robust evidence can support effective climate and health action across sectors. A poster exhibition will highlight research from UCL academics and students, and the event will close with a networking reception.

Regional launches to follow

The London conference is one of several launches around the 2026 reports. On 29 October, Lancet Countdown Asia will hold a hybrid launch of the 2026 China Report, while Lancet Countdown Oceania will launch the 2026 MJA-Lancet Countdown Report on Health and Climate Change in Sydney, also in hybrid format.

Why it matters

With extreme heat, shifting disease patterns and food and water insecurity increasingly straining health systems, the conference puts human health at the centre of climate policy — just weeks before COP31 opens in Antalya on 9 November. The findings are expected to feed into negotiations on adaptation, loss and damage and climate finance for health.
