بالٹک سمندر میں بالٹک پاور آف شور ونڈ فارم کی ٹربائنز — پولینڈ کا پہلا آف شور ونڈ منصوبہ

Northland Power Inc. and Polish energy group ORLEN have completed the installation of all 76 wind turbines at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, Poland’s first offshore wind project. The partners announced the milestone on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, saying the 1.1-gigawatt project in the Baltic Sea is on track to begin commercial operations later in 2026, with overall costs aligned with original expectations.

FAKTA: Baltic Power offshore wind in numbers

  • All 76 turbines installed — announced 7 October 2026 from Toronto.
  • Capacity: 1.1 GW in the Baltic Sea, about 20 kilometres offshore.
  • Owners: a joint venture of Canada’s Northland Power Inc. and Poland’s ORLEN.
  • Expected output: about 4 terawatt-hours of electricity a year — roughly 3% of Poland’s current electricity demand, enough to power more than 1.5 million Polish households.
  • Status: more than one-third of the turbines are already generating power; first power was delivered in July 2026 — the first electricity ever generated from offshore wind to reach Poland’s national grid.
  • Revenue certainty: the project is underpinned by a 25-year contract-for-difference.

First power already flowing to the Polish grid

While the project advances through commissioning, more than one-third of the 76 turbines are already producing electricity. First power was achieved in July 2026, delivering the first offshore wind electricity ever fed into Poland’s national grid.

“Installing all 76 turbines at Baltic Power demonstrates Northland’s ability to safely execute complex, large-scale offshore wind projects,” said Christine Healy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northland. “Since entering Poland in 2021, we remain committed to building the country’s energy future by combining Polish expertise and ingenuity with Northland’s global offshore wind experience.”

Northland Power is a Canadian-headquartered power producer with offices in seven countries, 3.6 GW of operating generating capacity, 2.4 GW under construction and a development pipeline of about 8 GW. Its shares have traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange since 1997.

The turbines are Vestas V236-15 MW machines — each more than 260 metres tall with a swept area exceeding 43,700 square metres. The installation campaign was carried out by Danish contractor Cadeler using the jack-up vessels Wind Osprey and Wind Mover.

“We are pleased to have completed the installation of all 76 turbines at Baltic Power – Poland’s first offshore wind farm,” said Mikkel Gleerup, Cadeler’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is an important milestone for the project and for the development of offshore wind in Poland.”

What it means for Poland’s energy transition

Poland still depends heavily on coal for its electricity, so Baltic Power’s expected 4 terawatt-hours a year — about 3% of national demand — marks a significant step toward diversifying the country’s energy mix and strengthening its energy security. The 25-year contract-for-difference gives the developers long-term revenue certainty.

Northland is also building two grid-scale battery storage projects in Poland, totalling 300 MW / 1.2 GWh, alongside the wind farm — a diversified bet on the country’s clean energy transition.

Frequently asked questions

When will Baltic Power be fully operational?
The project is advancing through commissioning and is on track for commercial operations later in 2026, according to Northland Power.

How much electricity will Baltic Power generate?
About 4 terawatt-hours a year — roughly 3% of Poland’s current electricity demand, enough to power more than 1.5 million Polish households.

Who owns Baltic Power?
It is a joint venture between Canada’s Northland Power Inc. and Poland’s ORLEN, Poland’s biggest energy company.

Why is Baltic Power significant for Poland?
It is Poland’s first offshore wind farm and delivered the first offshore wind electricity ever to the country’s national grid — a major step for a country still heavily dependent on coal.
