The European Commission has opened applications for the 2026 cohort of European Climate Pact Ambassadors, calling on residents across EU member states to step up and lead climate action in their own communities. The call is open from 1 to 31 October 2026, and applications are being assessed on a rolling basis.
FAKTA: The 2026 Ambassador call
- Applications open: 1–31 October 2026, assessed on a rolling basis.
- Who can apply: Residents of EU member states — organisation leaders, community leaders, mayors, policymakers, educators, researchers, influencers and opinion leaders.
- Requirements: Commit to at least three concrete climate actions during the year and complete an e-learning onboarding course within three weeks.
- Timeline: Applications reviewed in November–December 2026; selected ambassadors start in early 2027.
- The network: More than 1,000 ambassadors and over 100 partners already take part in the Pact.
Announced by the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication on 1 October, the call is aimed at people who are already taking climate action or want to scale up their impact. Climate Pact Ambassadors inform, inspire and support climate policy and action in their communities and networks, according to the European Climate Pact.

What ambassadors do
Ambassadors work across three tracks: leading by example, inspiring others, and connecting with like-minded people. They encourage citizens, organisations and public authorities to take climate action and urge policymakers to adopt ambitious measures that accelerate the green transition.
Typical commitments include giving a talk or presentation, organising or facilitating a workshop or event, writing about climate topics, or coordinating a local climate action project or campaign.
Support for ambassadors
In return, ambassadors join a community of more than 1,000 changemakers, gain access to exclusive events, practical tools and resources, and receive visibility for their work, according to the EU’s Youth Portal.
How to apply
Applications can be submitted in any EU language, although EU-level activities take place in English. Applicants must be residents of an EU member state and make a climate action commitment covering at least three concrete actions for the year ahead. After applying, new ambassadors complete an e-learning onboarding course within three weeks of selection.
The European Climate Pact was launched by the European Commission as part of the European Green Deal and supports the EU’s goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050.
