Iran has executed Ali-Sina Mostafavi, a man convicted of carrying out armed attacks in the southeastern city of Kerman during the war with the United States and Israel, the judiciary’s news outlet Mizan said on Wednesday.
Mizan said the execution was carried out in Kerman on Wednesday morning after the Supreme Court confirmed the verdict. The judiciary accused Mostafavi of acting in support of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last shah, and of Israel. The accusations could not be independently verified.

The charges against Ali-Sina Mostafavi
According to the judiciary, Ali-Sina Mostafavi carried out several armed operations in Kerman during the war. In a first attack on March 24, he opened fire in Azadi Square, wounding a citizen and a young girl. On April 21, he opened fire on conscripts and passing vehicles, injuring several citizens, the judiciary said.
Mizan reported that the Supreme Court had upheld his death sentence. The judiciary further claimed that messages on his phone showed he was willing to carry out an attack at Kerman’s airport and that he had planned two more shootings aimed at police on the Kerman–Mahan road.

The execution took place in Kerman, a historic city in southeastern Iran.
Rights groups dispute the case
Rights groups painted a different picture of the case. Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, said Mostafavi was arrested at his home on April 25 and beaten by security forces.
The group said Branch 1 of the Kerman Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death and that the Supreme Court upheld the ruling on September 28. On Tuesday, rights groups warned that his execution was imminent, saying he had been moved to solitary confinement in Kerman’s Shahab prison and his family had been called for a final visit.
Rights groups described Mostafavi as a mountaineer who had climbed Island Peak and Kala Patthar in Nepal. None of the judiciary’s accusations against him could be independently verified.
The execution comes amid a broader wave of executions in Iran linked to the war with the United States and Israel earlier this year. For more international coverage, see our world news section.
