US-Iran war

Iran has sent a formal set of conditions to the US through Qatari mediators for an end to the war and re-engagement in talks, the country’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei has told Al Jazeera.

  • An end to the war on all fronts
  • Release of Iran’s frozen funds
  • An end to the US naval blockade

US and Iran’s Standoff Continues

Rezaei’s comments come as mediators Qatar and Pakistan are working to re-establish negotiations between the two sides after their memorandum of understanding (MoU) expired last month.

US Threats and Iranian Response

Rezaei said Trump’s threats will not achieve any results and that Iran is prepared for a decisive war. He also did not rule out a new US strike against Iran, calling the possibility ‘very much on the cards’ based on his country’s military assessments.

Iran’s Military Planning and Readiness

Rezaei said Iran’s military planning has shifted since two earlier rounds of conflict and is now focused on US naval assets, stretching from the Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. He also said the intensity of any future Iranian response would be heavy, encompassing US bases in the region as well as US commercial interests and companies operating locally.

Iran’s Two-Sided Message

Al Jazeera’s Tohid Asadi described Rezaei’s remarks as part of the ‘two-sided, twofold message’ Iran has maintained throughout the conflict – combining openness to diplomacy with continued war preparations.

Conclusion

Rezaei’s comments come as the US and Iran remain at odds over a number of issues, including US sanctions and Iran’s nuclear program. The situation remains fluid, with both sides engaged in a war of words and ongoing military posturing.
